If you’re searching for a new home, there’s no doubt you’ve noticed there are quite a few homebuilders to choose from in the metro area. But one builder, Summit Custom Homes, is a different kind of home builder. Simply put, they deliver buyers a more energy-efficient, healthier home, and a greater new home value than most, all in some of the hottest selling new home communities throughout the metro.

The team at Summit Custom Homes, one of Kansas City’s fastest growing companies and the number one permitting homebuilder in the market, understands that a home is a place where we raise our children, enjoy holidays together, and spend time creating memories that will last a lifetime. It is truly our safe haven. They understand that building a house isn’t the same thing as building someone’s home. They build finely crafted, safe, and comfortable homes that homeowners feel a sense of pride living in.

At Summit Custom Homes, they know that square feet are not the only kind of feet in your home. It takes a special kind of builder to fully understand and implement that into their building practices. “So often, new homebuyers shop on a price per square foot basis, mainly because they don’t have enough information to use other benchmarks,” said Kevin Stucker, Summit’s vice-president. “Buyers should understand, however, that the builder they choose does make a difference both in the building experience and in the long term value and enjoyment of the home.”

It starts with an eye on quality and a commitment to deliver homeowners an energy-efficient home. They incorporate advanced building techniques to deliver a tighter, more energy-efficient structure; install maintenance-free low-e windows to reflect solar heat gain in the summer and let in passive heating in the winter; caulk and seal all exterior wall joints and connections and flash foam the interior rim joists and wall seams over areas like the garage; install ultra-efficient 96.5% efficient furnaces with 16-SEER air conditioning units; sealed HVAC distribution ductwork; and install set-back thermostats to name a few.

Summit Custom Homes is committed to a higher standard. The company backs up their energy-efficiency claims with an independent energy audit by a HERS certified inspector. The average Summit HERS score in 2012 was a 70, meaning that their homes are about 30% more efficient than homes built to the energy code standard being used in 2012. “A more efficient home means lower utility bills for our homeowners, and less environmental impact,” commented Stucker.

Summit is creating healthier indoor environments by incorporating the use of formaldehyde -free insulation products; low or no V.O.C. (Volatile Organic Compound) paints, glue, sealants where available; a passive radon remediation system; Shaw “Green Edge” carpeting; a MERV-11 high particulate furnace filter; a centralized return air system; and more. “We’re keenly aware that our homebuyers are more focused than ever before on their health and well-being, so we design and build our homes to address those concerns head on,” added Stucker.

The building experience is another thing that sets Summit apart. “All of our plans are designed for the way today’s families want to live with features such as bedroom level laundry rooms, mud benches off the garage, open floor plans, designer island kitchens, spa master bathrooms with tiled floors and showers with dual shower heads and more,” said Megan Fratzke, marketing manager for Summit Custom Homes.

“In addition, all throughout the building process, our homeowners work together with a dedicated homeowner care specialist to guide them through the process, answer questions, and help with selections,” she added. After the closing, homebuyers enjoy the peace of mind knowing that their investment is not only covered by a one-year comprehensive written new home warranty, but also by two years of coverage on the home’s mechanical systems and a full ten years of insurance-backed and transferrable coverage on the homes foundation and structural framing. “Very few homebuilders offer coverage that rich,” added Fratzke.

With a philosophy like this, it’s easy to see why Summit Custom Homes is so successful.
